KishMedipharm Entrance

A new entrance and facade for a pharmaceutical company on Kish Island — a triangulated concrete screen that gives the building identity, shade and a clear front door.

Kish Island, Iran

Building facade wrapped in a long concrete screen with a triangulated lattice pattern, with planting and boulders in front.

Overview

KishMedipharm wanted its building on Kish Island to look like what it is: a modern, precise, technical company. Proshat ArcStudio redesigned the entrance and facade and supervised the work on site.

The challenge

The existing frontage was plain and hard to read, with no clear point of arrival. Kish’s strong sun also meant that any new facade should protect the glazing behind it, not just decorate it.

Approach

  • One strong move. A long concrete screen with a triangulated lattice wraps the street front. It is bold enough to work as the company’s signature and structured enough to suit a pharmaceutical brand.
  • Shade with depth. The screen stands in front of a dark recessed facade, filtering sunlight and creating a shaded buffer in front of the building.
  • A clear front door. Wide steps lead to the entrance under the lattice, and the column bases are marked for safety.
  • Brand in the landscape. Rather than a sign on the wall, the KMP logo is mounted on a natural boulder within lush planting, so the company’s identity is part of the arrival.

Key learnings

  • A single disciplined pattern can give an ordinary building a recognisable identity.
  • On a sunny site, facade design is also climate design.
